The story opens on a patch of fertile earth on a rural farm, where a huge heavy hoof comes into contact with the ground. The camera pans out revealing our protagonist, a huge draft horse named Bronx, pulling a heavy plow behind him. His expression is strained, body sweaty, and his farmer is giving him commands every second. Two birds perched on a tree near the field make fun of Bronx from the distance, but he overhears their conversation and snorts at them, shutting them up instantly.
This is one of the few establishing moments of how Bronx is seen by his peers around him. After finishing the job around sunset, the farmer rewards Bronx with an apple for his hard work. However, Bronx's grateful attitude suddenly changes the minute he encounters other farm animals on the way to his stall. He bosses them, talks down to them, and forcefully tells them to get out of his way.
